DescriptionThe Cirrus Regional Study of Tropical Anvils and Cirrus Layers - Florida Area Cirrus Experiment (CRYSTAL-FACE) took place in the summer of 2002 over Key West, Florida. It was a measurement campaign that investigated the physical properties and formation processes of tropical cirrus clouds. Six aircraft with various instruments flew missions, gathering data that were compared with ground-based instrument data and that would be used in the modeling of the Earth’s climate. DOE was only one of several federal agencies involved, along with various universities and science institutes. The Crystal-Face numeric data sets are available in DOE’s ARM Archive at http://www.archive.arm.gov/armlogin/login.jsp and in NASA’s ARCS archive at http://espoarchive.nasa.gov/archive/arcs/crystalf/images/npol_1/. Various sets of data are also available at some of the participating universities. The official home page for Crystal-Face is http://www.espo.nasa.gov/crystalface/index.html.
