Title: A-Z of offshore oil and gas: an illustrated international glossary and reference guide to the offshore oil and gas industries and their technology

Book ·
OSTI ID:7337045

The book consists of two parts, a glossary and a complementary appendix section, together covering the many technologies embraced by the world of offshore oil and gas--geology, geophysics and oceanography; sonics, surveying, acoustic location, and positioning; communications, instrumentation, and control; storage, transportation, and mooring; mobile and fixing drilling units, and other offshore structures; underwater technology and diving operations; petrochemicals; finance and legislation; personnel and safety; drilling techniques and equipment; oil and gas production; pipelines and pipe-laying; drilling fluid engineering. They also deal with the offshore regions of the world, the principal countries and areas where oil and gas exploration and exploitation is either practiced or contemplated, the oil- and gas-fields in those places, and the major oil capitals and service and supply bases supporting those operations. Details of official and private bodies and learned societies most prominent in the various fields are given, and some relevant information concerning onshore activities has been incorporated. The appendixes contain information which is better presented in tabular and diagrammatic form, such as listings of the four classes of offshore drilling units, the world's offshore oil- and gas-fields, statistics and conversion tables. These appendixes not only summarize but give information additional to that in the glossary proper. Appendix 9, the map section, also supplements pictorially those glossary entries describing worldwide offshore activities.
