Compliant rotary powered tool
This patent describes a compliant rotary tool. It comprises an elongated arm assembly having a forward end and a rearward end; a driveshaft journaled in the rearward end of the arm assembly so that the arm assembly can pivot around the driveshaft. The driveshaft having a longitudinally extending axis; a driven shaft journaled in the forward end of the arm assembly, the driven shaft having a longitudinally extending axis; first drive means rigidly mounted on the driveshaft having a radius R{sub 1} as measured from the longitudinal axis oof the driveshaft, second drive means rigidly mounted on the driven shaft having a radius R{sub 2} as measured from the longitudinal axis of the driven shaft, R{sub 1} being greater than R{sub 2} thereby creating an angle of pull; closed loop means passing around the radius R{sub 1} and around the radius R{sub 2} for transmitting the rotational motion of the driveshaft to the driven shaft; a frame member which is journaled on the driveshaft; a motor for rotating the driveshaft and it is affixed to the frame member; and means for producing a drag on the driven shaft drag.
