Evaluation of PWR tubesheet crevice-flushing approaches: Final report

Processes for removing impurities from tube-to-tubesheet crevices of PWR steam generators were evaluated employing a rectangular flat plate simulant of the crevice region. Either sodium chloride or sodium hydroxide solutions were used to prepare the crevice fill media with magnetite powder used to simulate the crevice corrosion product. The effectiveness of the tested impurity removal processes is discussed in light of the physical/chemical basis of each process. Heatup/cooldown cycling and low temperature depressurization both appear to offer promise relative to improving the efficiency of normally employed crevice flushing efforts at commercial units.
