The difficulties experienced by station operation and maintenance personnel in using construction documents for station maintenance, modification, and troubleshooting tasks are discussed. An example is presented to illustrate this problem. A set of operations-oriented documents are discussed and their ease of use compared to the construction documents used in the example is illustrated. Supplemental operations-oriented documents that provide information either not required during construction or not clearly documented, but that is essential for an operating station, are described. The requirements for achieving total configuration management are discussed.
