A muon-neutrino to electron-neutrino oscillation search using the AGS Narrow Band Beam
This document reports the results of E776 which performed a {nu}{sub {mu}} {yields} {nu}{sub e} oscillation search at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The neutrino detector, a 226 metric ton segmented electromagnetic calorimeter followed by a toroidal muon spectrometer, is located 1 km from the target of the Narrow Band Beam at the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron. A total of 3 {times} 10{sup 19} protons on target produced a neutrino beam with a mean energy of 1.4 GeV. No evidence for evidence for neutrino oscillation through the mode, {nu}{sub {mu}} {yields} {nu}{sub e}, was observed. The 90% confidence limits obtained are {Delta}m{sup 2} {le} 0.174 eV{sup 2}, in the limit of maximal mixing, and sin{sup 2}2{theta} {le} 0.042, in the limit of large {Delta}m{sup 2}.
