The gene for the human transcription factor protein Sp1 was previously mapped to chromosome 12 (q arm) using somatic cell hybrids. Using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), the authors have now localized this gene to the distal portion of band 12q13. However, since subband 12q13.1 occupies the bulk of this region, further sublocalization (i.e., within 12q13.1, 13.2, or 13.3) was not possible. This assignment may facilitate understanding of certain neoplastic diseases involving this region. 14 refs., 1 fig.
