IREQ strengthens Canada's position in power research. [Institute of Research of Hydro Quebec]
The Quebec Hydro-Electric Commission authorized the foundation of the Institute of Research (IREQ) to fulfill Hydro-Quebec's research requirements, particularly of its engineering, system operation, and distribution departments; to offer assistance to public utilities throughout the world in the area of study and research; and to provide aid to manufacturers wishing to develop and test their products. Hydro-Quebec was the first facility in the world to transmit at 735 kV. In addition to high-voltage and high-power testing facilities, IREQ possesses general laboratories where specialists in all fields carry out research in systems engineering, materials, electrochemistry, control systems, mechanics, thermodynamics, and the physical sciences. Its worldwide cooperation with research centers, universities, and industry is discussed. (MCW)
