Title: Rock Creek methane from Multiple Coal Seams Completion Project. Annual report, January 1991-December 1991

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7152081

The Multiple Coal Seams Completion Research Project develops drilling, completion, testing, stimulation, and production procedures for economic production of methane from multiple coal seams. Wells P6 and P7 were stimulated in the Mary Lee group with water and cross-linked gel treatments. Production from the Mary Lee peaked at 120 MCFD and 10 MCFD for P6 and P7, respectively. Restimulation of Wells P3 and P4 resulted in significant production increases, from 63 to 380 MCFD and 94 to 250 MCFD. A Sonofrac treatment was used on Well P3A with little apparent effect. Offsite work with ARCO and MetFuel has indicated low permeability and short fracture lengths as a main factor in low production. Coreholes C5 and C6 were completed in May. Desorption tests show near virgin reservoir conditions at the northern end of the project and slight influence by the Oak Grove Mine in the southern area. Permeability and compressibility testing of Well P8 and corehole C6 began, but C6 was abandoned due to problems. During the report period, extensive well testing was conducted. Slug tests and an injection test were performed on the Mary Lee group in Well P6. Monitor Well P8M1 was completed and the testing resumed.
