Experience gained by power systems with introduction and operation of systems of technological protection units (STP) shows that their function is an important factor in improving the reliability of equipment and the basis of increasing labor productivity as a result of extension of the zones of servicing. During 1971 to 1973, the introduction of STP in the Sverdlovenergo power system freed 100 men in the boiler-turbine departments. In 1974 to 1975, a further 90 men should be freed. The introduction of STP made it possible to service six high pressure steam generators or four to five high pressure turbines, or eight medium pressure steam generators by one operator without a joint control board, using the principle of ''floating working place.'' An especially great role of STP is that on present-day equipment. In the last seven years the rate of introduction of protection units was 2.5 times higher than the rate of increase in capacity of the power system. The importance of the problems of ensuring reliability of STP under such conditions is obvious. The STP operation was analyzed on the basis of statistical data obtained in power systems over 1965 to 1971. The effect of 1534 sets of protection units and over 3000 actuators, which obtained 3500 requests to operate on disturbance of checked parameters, was analyzed; results of 9000 preventive checks (PCh) were analyzed.
