Geothermal development
The following are discussed: total known resources and reserves; reserves presently available at given prices; reserves available with given environmental constraints and the effect of relaxation of those restraints; state-of-the-art of hydrothermal, geopressured, hot, dry rock, and magma systems; research and development goals, maximum accelerated approach, support of research and development, geothermal energy supply projection, and uses and benefits of geothermal technology. A partial tabulation of estimates of geothermal potential at the California Geysers and in the United States is included. The world development of geothermal electric generation is summarized. Data on the Geysers development are tabulated including the utility capital investment. The estimated capital investment for Unit No. 15 and the estimated power costs for that unit are presented.
