Title: Reactions of iminium ligands with alkynes. Addition of HC triple bond CCO sub 2 Me to Os sub 3 (CO) sub 10 (. mu. -H sub 2 CNMe sub 2 )(. mu. -H)

The reaction of Os{sub 3}(CO){sub 10}({mu}-H{sub 2}CNMe{sub 2})({mu}-H) (1) with HC{triple bond}CCO{sub 2}Me has yielded three new products, Os{sub 3}(CO){sub 8}({mu}-CNMe{sub 2}) ({mu}{sub 3}-CH{sub 2}C(CO{sub 2}Me)C(CO{sub 2}Me)CH) (3, 7%{degree}), Os{sub 3}(CO){sub 9}({mu}{sub 3}-Me{sub 2}NCCC(H)(CO{sub 2}Me))({mu}-H) (4, 20%), and Os{sub 3}(CO){sub 9}({mu}{sub 3}-H{sub 2}CNMe{sub 2}CH{sub 2}CCO{sub 2}Me) (5, 6%). Compounds 3-5 were characterized by IR, {sup 1}H NMR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Crystal data for 3: space group, P2{sub 1}/n, a = 9.998 (3) {angstrom}, b = 14.229 (4), c = 17.926 (3) {angstrom}, {beta} = 104.67 (2){degree}, R = 0.028 for 2616 reflections. Crystal data for 4: space group, P1, a = 10.623 (2) {angstrom}, b = 12.877 (2) {angstrom}, c = 8.531 (2) {angstrom}, {alpha} = 102.18 (1){degree}, {beta} = 102.14 (2){degree}, {gamma} = 85.85 (1){degree}, R = 0.025 for 2508 reflections. Crystal data for 5: space group P2{sub 1}/c, a = 8.778 (4) {angstrom}, b = 15.836 (3) {angstrom}, c = 16.029 (4) {angstrom}, {beta} = 105.61 (3){degree}, R = 0.052 for 2907 reflections.
