This patent describes an apparatus for use with a conventional solid-state NMR spectrometer. It comprises an imaging probe which generates high linear gradient fields, and a solid-state pulse programmer which when installed in a microcomputer is programmable and provides control pulse sequences for excitation of the imaging probe and for shaping of RF pulses and on board data acquisition and memory.
