The case for immediate domestic gas field price decontrol rests on equitable treatment for both intrastate and interstate pipelines and the need for all distributors to be able to buy and sell at reasonable and competitive prices. Eliminating the range of prices established by the Natural Gas Policy Act will remove much of the market confusion. Unlike oil, gas is traditionally sold under long-term contracts, but a free-market model is available in the pre-1978 intrastate natural gas market. (DCK)
