Kinetics of isotope exchange in intermetallic compound (LaNi/sub 5/, ZrNi)-hydrogen-water

The rate of isotope exchange in the molecular hydrogen-intermetallic compound hydride (LaNi/sub 5/, ZrNi)-water system was measured in the 293-363/sup 0/K temperature range and at 0.101-MPa pressure. It was shown that the isotope exchange between water and hydrogen proceeds in two states: the first is H/sub 2/ - IMCH - and the second IMCH - water, the second stage being the slower one. A homomolecular isotope exchange of hydrogen in the gaseous phase proceeds mainly by types I and II mechanisms (without the participation of the solid state hydrogen atoms, and with the participation of one hydrogen atom of the solid state, respectively).
