Polarized deep inelastic scattering from photon targets and axial anomalies

In this paper, the authors discuss the polarized photon structure function g[gamma](x) and focus on the first moment of g[gamma](x), where we explore the role of the axial QED and strong U(l) anomalies. Electromagnetic gauge invariance determines an exact sum rule for the first moment of g[gamma](x). If the authors accept a recently proposed definition of spin content then the authors must also accept a polarized gluon component of [Delta]g[gamma] - 2[pi][alpha][sub s] in the spin-one photophoton.
