Title: Evaluation of a commercial advanced absorption heat pump breadboard

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6882292

An advanced absorption heat pump program is being conducted by the Trane Company, with support from the US Department of Energy. The overall objective of the program is the evaluation, development, and proof testing of advanced absorption refrigeration cycles which are applicable to residential and commercial heat pumps for space conditioning. The heat pump system is to be direct fired with natural gas, and to use working fluids whose properties are known. Target Coefficient of Performance (COP's) are 1.6 at 47/degree/F and 1.2 at 17/degree/F in the heating mode, and 0.7 at 95/degree/F in the cooling mode, including the effect of flue losses. The overall project is divided into three phases. Phase I was the analytical evaluation of advanced cycles, and included selection of preferred concepts for further development. Phase II involved the development and testing of critical components and breadboard version of the selected system. Phase III is the development of a prototype unit and is contingent on successful completion of Phase II. This paper summarizes the results of the Phase II work. 6 figs., 2 tabs.
