Interim report on ground-water contamination: Environmental Protection Agency oversight. Twenty-fifth report presented before the US House of Representatives, Ninety-sixth Congress, 2nd Session. [House Report 96-1440]
Ground-water resources are threatened by industrial wastes dumped in impoundments, pits, ponds, and lagoons at a time when public reliance on ground water for drinking is increasing. Ground-water contamination will be a major environmental problem in the 1980s, threatening public health and growing worse unless immediate steps are taken to locate and prevent further disposal of toxic materials. Some sites may already be damaged irreversibly, but vigorous cooperation between all levels of government and the private sector can undertake remedies and develop national policies that will protect ground water. Correspondence and a state-by-state list of over 2100 known contaminated sites are included in the appendices. (DKC)
