Two-stage hydrocarbon conversion process
This patent describes a multiple stage process for hydroconversion of a hydrocarbon feedstock containing nitrogen- and sulfur-containing compounds. It comprises: contacting the feedstock in a hydrotreating stage comprising a hydrotreating reaction zone wherein hydrogen is contacted with the hydrocarbon feedstock in the presence of a hydrotreating catalyst at hydrotreating conditions wherein a substantial portion of the nitrogen- and sulfur-containing compounds are converted to hydrogen sulfide and ammonia; passing at least a portion of the effluent from the hydrotreating reaction zone to a stripping zone wherein a substantial portion of the hydrogen sulfide and ammonia is removed from the hydrotreating reaction zone effluent to form a stripping zone effluent; contacting at least a portion of the stripping zone effluent in a hydrocracking stage wherein the stripping zone effluent is contacted with hydrogen at hydrocracking conversion conditions in the presence of a catalyst comprising a hydrogenation component comprising a nickel component and a tungsten component wherein the nickel component is present in an amount ranging from about 1 to bout 10 wt. % and the tungsten component is present in an amount ranging from about 10 to 30 wt. %. Both are calculated as oxides and based on the total catalyst weight and a support component consisting essentially of a crystalline molecular sieve component and an alumina component wherein the crystalline molecular sieve component is present in the support in an amount less than about 60 wt. % and greater than about 25 wt. % based on the total weight of the support component.
