Lamb shift in helium-like uranium (U/sup 90+/)

We report a value of 70.4 +- 8.3 eV for the one-electron Lamb shift in uranium, in agreement with the theoretical value of 75.3 +- 0.4 eV. We extract our Lamb shift from a beam-foil time-of-flight measurement of the (54.4 +- 3.4)-ps lifetime of the 1s2p/sub 1/2/ /sup 3/P/sub 0/ state of helium-like uranium.
