The author perform the x-ray diffraction examination of crystal fragments separated from ingots to examine the rhombic modification of the lower niobium carbide. The Debye patterns of the annealed specimens containing 31-34% C show a set of lines whose reflection angle is similar to that of the beta-phase. In addition, the specimens contained a solid solution of carbon in niobium. The diffraction set of the detected reflections showed that the structure of the beta /SUB r/ modification of Nb/sub 2/C corresponds to the spatial groups.
