Title: Testing liquid meters. Part II. Reports from central and southern states reveal many differences in procedures

LP-gas meter-testing programs vary among the states in the central and southern U.S. Since 1970, the Texas Dept. of Agriculture has been performing meter testing and calibration on about 3000 meters/y. By increasing the fee from $5 to $10, the department hopes to expand the program so that all 5300 meters in Texas can be tested yearly. The Gas Equipment Co., Dallas, provides overhaul services for Neptune liquid meters to dealers in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Arkansas's Division of Weights and Measures works closely with the state's LP-Gas Association to obtain dealer support of the program, which has as its goal the testing of all meters in Arkansas once a year. In 1974-75, 780 meters were tested, with 68 percent requiring adjustment. Because Oklahoma has no state testing program, dealers are responsible for keeping their meters in good order; Ozark Meter Service, Ozark, Mo., has a mobile unit operating in Oklahoma, and J. Hunter Supplies of Oklahoma City repairs and calibrates meters at its plant. Louisiana and Mississippi also have no meter regulations and dealers must go to independent companies such as Moulden Supply Co., Jackson, for checking. Since 1951, the Kansas Weights and Measure Dept. has been inspecting and making small adjustments on all meters once a year, trying to keep tolerances within 1 percent. The Missouri LP-Gas Inspection Authority checks all meters each year and again after every repair.
