Blend calculation and coke quality forecasting for Eastern coals, based on petrographic parameters
Many investigations have shown that coke quality can be forecast from the petrographic parameters of the coals used. This paper describes the continuing efforts of the Kuznetsk Branch of VUKhIN to improve a previously proposed petrographic procedure for forecasting coke quality and predicting the coking quality of blends containing coals from different coalfields by perfecting the methods of evaluating degrees of reduction and leanness in blends and determining the distribution of micro-constituents. The proposed petrographic procedure is capable of giving accurate forecasts of coke mechanical strength and is recommended for selecting blends carbonized in the Eastern and Central coking plants, where coals from the Kuzbas, Karaganda, and Pechora coalfields are used. It can also be applied to forecasting coking quality of coals from new coalfields. 10 references, 8 tables.
