Wire engine for water pumps
A solar heat engine is described comprising: a source of heated air provided by a hot air solar collector, a source of cool air provided by a finned air duct situated in a low temperature region, a thermal energy converter comprising a plurality of lengths of thermally responsive shape memory elements, each of the elements having one end attached to a drum fixed to a moveable drive rod which slides in fixed support blocks. The lengths of memory metal elements are mounted on the drum in a parallel manner in which each length has one end fixed to the drum and its opposite end fixed to the same one of the two support blocks such that heating and cooling the parallel arranged, thermally responsive elements produces elongations and contractions of the elements and a reciprocable movement in the moveable rod attached to the drum so that the reciprocable movement may be communicated to an external load, and means for supplying alternate flows of air from sources of heated and cool air across the thermal energy converter comprising an air mover and switching valving repeatedly alternating series fluid flow communication.
