Title: D. U. C. Gas-Development Project Danish North Sea

Conference · · Soc. Pet. Eng. AIME, Pap.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6728103

The D.U.C. Gas-Development Project encompasses 14 wellhead, process and riser platforms located in the central North Sea 215 kilometers (135 miles) west of Denmark, to deliver up to 405 million cubic feet of gas per day into the Danish distribution network concurrently under development. This paper describes the massive supervision, coordination and control effect required in implementation of this billion-dollar North Sea project, and the various complexities which set is apart from other major North Sea projects. Included in this is the contractual commitment to a fixed date (July 1st, 1984) for completion and delivery of gas. As Denmark's sole indigenous source of natural gas this project is of national importance, which demands an extremely high security of gas supply. Production from the out set of a sour toxic gas under the strict safety criteria of the offshore North Sea environment has posed numerous new problems. Another important feature is the fact that, although the platforms are located in relatively shallow water (130 feet), they must be designed to withstand among the world's most severe environmental conditions. This project is being carried out by Dansk Boreselskab A/S as operator for the Danish Underground Consortium (D.U.C.), with partners A.P. Moller, Shell, Chevron and Texaco.
