Foam workovers cut costs 50%
Combined with other new operating procedures, use of stable foam preformed at the surface as a circulating fluid for completion and remedial operations has cut jobs costs by one-half or more, resulted in higher well production, and reduced maintenance costs after wells are restored to producing status. Based on 244 jobs in one area, the total gain from using foam amounted to $324,700. The types of jobs and other well data are given in tabular foam. The new method requires only a minimum of special equipment. Conventional pulling units using tubing work strings are adequate to perform most jobs. Hydraulic workover units also have been used to run macaroni strings in tubing for sand removal. So far, foam has been used successfully on wells deeper than 9,500 ft with tubing pressures to 1,850 psi.
