Betatron frequency deviations due to magnet field impurities
Due to magnet field impurities in a storage ring the betatron frequencies for a given particle depend upon the energy and betatron amplitudes of the particle as well as the values of the energy dispersion and betatron functions at the magnets. A method has been developed to calculate the betatron frequencies for any particle in the limit of zero vertical betatron amplitude. Using this method the betatron frequency values have been calculated for a range of particle energy and horizontal betatron amplitude with measured field errors in the prototype PEP cell quadrupole magnets for a typical operation configuration. In the present study the expressions for the betatron frequencies are extended to include non-zero vertical betatron amplitudes. As an example, the field quality of the prototype PEP cell quadrupole magnets are re-examined using these expressions. 4 refs., 1 fig.
