The present invention is directed to a novel neutron and gamma radiation shielding material consisting of 95 to 97 percent by weight SiO/sub 2/ and 5 to 3 percent by weight sodium silicate. In addition, the method of using this composition to provide a continuous neutron and gamma radiation shielding structure is disclosed.
