Title: Energy storage

Book ·
OSTI ID:6550346

This book sets out to present a broad review of the very complex subject of energy storage and to enable the reader to choose the proper storage method for a particular situation. The choice of storage method depends on many factors, some of the most essential being: the time for which storage is required; the quantity of energy to be stored; the form of energy needed for consumption; and variations in the rate of consumption. Also, the book describes basic theory and calculations of key parameters such as energy density and power density, and covers such fields as: heat storage; chemical storage; mechanical storage; and electrical and magnetic storage. A chapter on existing storage systems as well as useful tables of the most important energy-storage parameters are also included. The book is intended for engineers, applied scientists, and students, though not necessarily specialists in the field of energy storage. it addresses industry, science, and research; and it is hoped it will be useful not only to professional people working on energy conservation, utility load levelling and stand-by, or emergency power problems, etc., but also to the individual concerned about a storage unit for use with the solar panel on his home.
