Passive solar workshops in the shadow of Three Mile Island

A series of hands-on workshops to help in meeting the need for grassroots energy information was organized. The workshops begin with a three hour Friday evening session, in which solar techniques (primarily passive) and practical conservation measures are explored and illustrated. In an all-day Saturday session, three to five integral passive solar domestic hot water units (breadboxes) are constructed, one for each ten to twelve participants. These workshops are held approximately once a month around Pennsylvania and neighboring states. Three primary areas are addressed as follows: workshop experience, details of the passive water heater design, and performance data.
