Interpretation of logging diagrams for shaly, gas-bearing sandstones using hand carried calculators
An appropriate program for HP-97 and HP-67 (Hewlett Packard) calculators is presented which includes a schematic of the program, instructions for use and examples of use. The program uses analytical methods for calculating the effective porosity and shaliness on the basis of relations between the value of the cubic weight of the rocks and the size of the porosity from neutron logging. With a substantive influence of hydrocarbons, the readings of GK or PS are used for introduction of the appropriate corrections. In the first stage of calculation, the porosity and shaliness are determined, and in the subsequent, the water saturation. The program is tested in the evaluation of the gas saturation of dense sandstones with low penetrability. The obtained results are in agreement with the data from interpretation according to the SARABRAND program.
