During the lat fiscal year, Australia produced 71,000,000 metric tons of coal. Almost 38,000,000 tons were exported. Australia is the world's third largest coal exporting nation and current development of coal mines, preparation plants, rail, and port facilities will ensure that Australia consolidates its position as a major world coal supplier. A large number of coal mining developments are in hand in both New South Wales and Queensland and more are planned in the short-term future.
