This system for collecting a substance floating on the surface of a liquid consists of a collector belt of a flexible material, moving through the liquid immediately below the substance to be collected. Where this moving belt leaves the liquid, a second endless conveyor belt is provided on which the substance removed by the first belt is deposited. The conveyor belt then transports the substance for disposal. This apparatus is intended for use in case of an oil spill at sea.
