This proceedings contains numerous papers on various aspects of surface coal mining operations. It includes a review of the regulatory history of coal mining and the success that these regulations have had. It discusses various aspects of coal mine layout and design, along with methods of geologic and hydrologic site characterization. Other papers specialize in mining and drilling equipment optimization. A section is also devoted to methods of preventing ground subsidence. However, the primary thrust of this text is to present papers on land reclamation and revegatation of coal mines.
