Properties of (. pi. ,. pi. p) reactions induced by 115-MeV. pi. /sup +/ and. pi. /sup -/ mesons in Ag and Br
The reactions (..pi../sup +/,..pi../sup +/p) and (..pi../sup -/,..pi../sup -/p) in the heavy component of nuclear emulsion (Ag and Br) have been investigated at a pion energy 115 MeV. We have obtained integrated cross sections, angular distributions of the residual nuclei, protons, and scattered mesons, energy spectra of the protons, and momentum spectra of the recoil nuclei. A dependence of the secondary-particle characteristics on the sign of the bombarding mesons is observed. It is shown that it is due to the difference of the mechanisms of the reactions investigated: direct knockout of a nucleon dominates in interaction of positive pions, and in the (..pi../sup -/,..pi../sup -/p) reaction the contribution of this mechanism is about 50%.
