This progress report is divided into two major sections. The first section has to do with evaluation of several fly ashes in a series of in vitro and animal tests. The tests include in vivo cytogenetic studies including the micronucleus and metaphase analysis assays, in vitro tests for microbial activity using the Salmonella tester strains, evaluation of urine from treated animals for the presence of mutagenic compounds, in vitro transformation assay and an analysis of lung tissue damage following inhalation studies. The second section deals with the development of statistical methodology for the cell transformation assay and the mouse micronucleus assay.
