Title: g factor of 4/sub 1//sup +/ states in the N = 82 isotones /sup 136/Xe and /sup 138/Ba

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)

The g factors for the 4/sub 1//sup +/ states in /sup 136/Xe and /sup 138/Ba were measured using the method of time-integral perturbed angular correlation. The levels of interest were populated by the decay of mass-separated /sup 136/I and /sup 138/Cs. g factors of 0.80 +- 0.15 and 0.80 +- 0.14 were measured for the 4/sub 1//sup +/ states in /sup 136/Xe and /sup 138/Ba, respectively. The above results, along with those for the g factors in the 4/sub 1//sup +/ state in /sup 140/Ce and the 6/sub 1//sup +/ states in /sup 134/Te and /sup 138/Ba, are well described by a shell-model calculation in which the effective elemental proton g factors are g/sub l//sup prime/ = 1.12 and g/sub s//sup prime/ = 4.12.
