New laser resonator with unobscured reflective outcoupling and internal optic axis
For high power laser oscillators with good output beam properties, resonators which have unobscured, purely reflective outcoupling and an optic axis lying well within the internally circulating beam are needed. A new resonator design which has these combined features is proposed herein. It has rectangular cross-sectional symmetry with possibly different properties along X and Y, and is in the unstable regime along at least X (and possibly also along Y). The magnification Mx (and possibly also My) should be negative, with output being taken from a scraper mirror which is one-sided along X (and possibly also along Y). Calculations of related empty strip resonators indicate that the beam quality and mode properties should be generally satisfactory, provided one avoids values of equivalent Fresnel number near an integer N plus 7/8. 12 references.
