Energy levels and laser action in Nd : CaY/sub 2/Ge/sub 3/O/sub 12/

Fluorescence studies of Nd : CaY/sub 2/Ge/sub 3/O/sub 12/ at 77 and 300 /sup 0/K has resulted in new level identifications for several transitions. In particular, the dominant laser transition (lower threshold) corresponds to an R/sub 2/..-->..Y/sub 3/ transition (1058 nm). Laser action has also been observed at 1065 nm (R/sub 1/..-->..Y/sub 2/) over the temperature range 77--300 /sup 0/K.
