Overthrust and Green River Basin. Nitrogen use increasing in overthrust fields
Nitrogen injection for reservoir pressure maintenance is relatively new to the oil field, especially in the Rocky Mountain region. However, by the end of 1982, 4 air separation plants in the producing area of the overthrust belt will have the capacity to provide 160 MMCFD of nitrogen for use in 3 overthrust fields. Complete construction of a 50-MMCFD air separation facility at Anschutz Ranch East Field is expected by September 1. The plant will provide nitrogen to Amoco Production Co. for injection into the retrograde gas-condensate nugget reservior at the field. Startup may depend on unitization agreements or the cooperative efforts of operators with interests in the field. An existing nitrogen plant at Painter Reservoir Field to the North also is being expanded. The present plant is rated at a capacity of 32 MMCFD and will be expanded to 50 MMCFD. A second 50-MMCFD air separation plant also was under construction at Painter Reservoir by Air Products Co., bringing the total capacity in that area to 100 MMCFD.
