This patent describes a telemetering arrangement for use in conjunction with drilling operations of a borehole for transmitting information expressed in terms of data signals. It employs a fluid circulation system including mud pump means wherein interfering signals having a distinguishable characteristic are produced. The distinguishable characteristic result from pressure changes which are induced in the fluid of the circulation system by the drilling operations and are recurrent in accordance with an identifiable pattern. The circulation system forms at least in part a communication channel between a transmitting means at a first location for transmitting data signals representing the information, and a signal receiving means at a second location. The signal receiving means are operable to receive a mixture of the data signals and of the interfering signals to produce electrical mixed signals representing the mixture. The arrangement consists of: means operable independent of transmission properties of any portion of the circulation system for producing electrical control signals representative of the identifiable pattern, electronic processing apparatus comprising signal extractor means to which the electrical mixed signals are applied, and which is controlled by the electrical control signals to produce processed signals in which interfering signals are diminished, and means for deriving the information from the processed signals.
