DOE shifts priorities in FY 1994's $19. 6 billion budget
The proposed DOE budget of $19.6 billion for Fiscal Year 1994 reflects a shifting of priorities with emphasis on the Clinton Administration's goals of creating clean sources of energy, enhancing energy efficiency, protecting the environment, and utilizing Department laboratories and other assets to create jobs. The new priorities will result in significant increases in funding to enhance energy efficiency and conservation programs, create markets for non-polluting renewable energy resources, and increase research and development programs to boost the utilization of natural gas. The Department will achieve budget savings by reordering national defense responsibilities, now possible given the end of the Cold War era.
