Great progress has been made in last year in determining the properties of B mesons. Of particular interest is the determination of the couplings for the weak decays of quarks which in the standard model can be described by the unitary Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) mixing matrix. The elements V{sub cb} and V{sub ub} can be measured directly in the transitions b {yields} c and b {yields} u, and B{sup 0}{bar B}{sup 0} mixing can be used to determine V{sub td}. The general properties of B meson decays are also of interest in determining the properties of heavy quark systems. Rare decay modes are sensitive to higher order weak processes and provide a window to observe possible deviations from the standard model and the CKM description, such as a fourth generation. This brief review covers some selected highlights with the major results coming from the CLEO detector at Cornell and the ARGUS detector at DESY.
