Magnetic phase diagram of lightly doped La[sub 2[minus][ital x]]Sr[sub [ital x]]CuO[sub 4] from [sup 139]La nuclear quadrupole resonance

The magnetic phase diagram of La[sub 2[minus][ital x]]Sr[sub [ital x]]CuO[sub 4] in the antiferromagnetic regime ([ital x][le]0.02) has been derived from [sup 139]La nuclear quadrupole resonance studies from 4 to 250 K. The data demonstrate freezing of the doped holes' effective spin degrees of freedom below [ital T][sub [ital f]][approx](815 K)[ital x] into a spin-glass-like state which is superimposed on the antiferromagnetic background. These and previous results allow a detailed magnetic phase diagram to be constructed for [ital x][le]0.05 and reveal a distinct crossover at [ital x][approx]0.02 in the nature of the spin-glass transition.
