Title: Strong resonance x-ray emission bands of lanthanum and thorium in the region of the 4d and 5d ionization thresholds

Ultrasoft x-ray emission spectra of lanthanum and thorium in oxides were investigated using different exciting electron energies in the range of 4d and 5d ionization thresholds, respectively (spectral range from 60 to 140 eV). High-intensity emission bands were observed in the energy intervals corresponding to giant collective resonances in the absorption spectra of these two elements. The emission bands located beyond the ionization thresholds in the continuous parts of the spectra were of atomic origin and were associated with resonances of the 4d and 5d photoabsorption cross sections of the lanthanum and thorium atoms, respectively.
