Method and system for recovering shale oil and gas
In a method of in-situ oil and gas recovery from an exposed shale formation, a pair of converging, upper and lower tunnels are formed in a vertical face of the formation. The uppermost tunnel is sloped inward and the lowermost tunnel is sloped outward. An interconnected gallery is formed between the lower tunnels. At least one vertical shaft extends from an upper portion of the shale formation and joins with the tunnels and gallery. A heating medium at a temperature of about 800 - 1,600$F is passed into indirect contact with the shale formation surrounding the spaced tunnels. The heating medium is first sent through the uppermost tunnel, through the vertical shaft, and out through the lowermost tunnel. (6 claims)
