Given the intense concern about nuclear disaster, this collection of papers should receive heavy use by the general reading public. It presents the major problems of the environment that would result from nuclear war, and discusses the role scientists play in providing sufficient information that could lead to an elimination of such a threat. A broad range of topics are covered including the effects of blast, heat, and local radioactive fallout, the probable long-term effects of local and global biosphere, radiological effects on humans, and the likely dispersal patterns of radioactive debris in the troposphere and stratosphere.
