Title: BP's program for Prudhoe Bay. Pt. 2. Production plans stress conservation and safety

Journal Article · · World Oil; (United States)

In BP Alaska Inc.'s program for Prudhoe Bay, an automatic system shuts in wells and fights fires to prevent costly damage to unattended production site. Equally important as Prudhoe Bay's much publicized ecological problem is the operators' concern for conservation of underground resources through most efficient handling of produced natural gas; and maximum safety for personnel and equipment in isolated and confined areas. Depending on the gas market requirements, it may be necessary to re-inject solution gas. Studies of various cases have been made by the BP Task Group set up by proposed unit participants. Gas will be collected at gathering centers and move to the central compression plant. If it is necessary to re-inject into the gas cap, the gas will be further compressed to 4,300 psig and delivered to injection wells. The gas also may be compressed to sales pressure and conditioned for delivery to a gas pipe line. The central compression station would be located on the SW. shore of Prudhoe Bay, near the recommended injected areas in the gas cap and as near the center of production as practical. Injection wells have not yet been drilled in this general gas cap area north of the development.
