Title: Strong /ital CP/ violation and the neutron electric dipole moment

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)

We derive an identity that relates the fermion electric dipole moment from weak /ital CP/-violation effects to the strong /ital CP/ parameter /theta/. In the absence of Peccei-Quinn-type symmetries, we find that requiring /theta/ naturally small generally implies that, for a large class of models, the dominant contribution to the neutron electric dipole moment /ital d//sub /ital n// comes from strong /ital CP/ violation rather than directly from weak /ital CP/-violation effects.
