Process considerations in reciprocating compression
A good understanding of the interrelationship of the process variables in reciprocating compression is very important for optimizing compressor performance for maximum production. In addition, trial and error operations can be minimized. A multistage reciprocating compressor program has been developed on the microcomputer. This program can be used to analyze and optimize compressor performance. A number of computer runs have been made at various process conditions. The changes in the following variables as related to the performance of the reciprocating compressor are discussed: Compressor suction pressure; Compressor suction temperature; Compressor discharge pressure; Pressure drop across interstage coolers; Gas specific gravity; Gas K values (ratio of specific heats); Compressor speed; Cylinder clearances; and Single vs. double acting operations.
